\"Lorifendell\"<\/a>Lori Fendell, PA, MPH, Lic. Acupuncturist<\/strong>, received her Master\u2019s Degree in Acupuncture at Traditional Acupuncture Institute in Laurel, MD, and has had a fulltime practice of Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine in Durham, NC since 1991.\u00a0 This practice includes support in the cultivation of meditation and Qi Gong and the Chinese Medicine approach to enjoying food as a source of healing.<\/p>\n

She is on faculty at Daoist Traditions School of Chinese Medicine in Asheville, NC, since 2004.\u00a0 She was also faculty and active Board member of Global Medicine Education Foundation 2000-2008.\u00a0 She has given numerous lectures and seminars on Acupuncture, Integrative Medicine and Herbs at Duke University and UNC, through UNC and Duke\u2019s Centers for Integrative Medicine.<\/p>\n

She co-founded a Volunteer Acupuncture Detox Program at CAARE, Inc., a comprehensive Community- service and Rehab Program in Durham. 2010-present.<\/p>\n

She collaborated on an advanced breast cancer study with Duke using Chinese Medicine.\u00a0 She also serves as a Preceptor for Acupuncture students and Duke and UNC Medical and Public Health students.\u00a0 She was an active Board member of the Acupuncture Association of N.C. for 7 years with one term as President.<\/p>\n

After her B.S. as a Physician Assistant from State University of NY at Stony Brook, she provided care for 10 years as a P.A. in underserved areas in primary, gynecological and emergency room care; as well as in health education, program development and nutrition education.<\/p>\n

Additionally she worked as a clinical monitor, supervisor and project administrator for HIV clinical trials with Research Triangle Institute in N.C., where she participated in the National Institute of Health (NIH) International Committee of Opportunistic Infections.\u00a0 She also participated in research on diarrheal illnesses of infants at the University of MD.<\/p>\n

She worked in a Cambodian-Thai border Refugee Camp for one year as Clinical Supervisor, Program Developer and Medical Teacher\/ Trainer for village health care personnel. She was then inspired to pursue her MPH in International Health from University of Hawaii.\u00a0 In this capacity she also developed a health care manual for community public health education for the border refugees.<\/p>\n

She continues on-going Chinese Medicine Classical education, studying (2002-present) with Jeffrey Yuen, 88th generation Daoist Master, (with a trip to China\u2019s ancient Daoist shrines and sacred places of cultivation – 2010.)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Also growing healing\/teaching gardens based on Permaculture principles.
